Ray Martin “Illuminating the Ineffable”
My work draws from a multitude of materials and techniques to conjure images of mystery, awe and beauty.
My creative process is bifurcated: Often, I paint directly in plain air with oils or watercolor, responding to nature’s rhythms, movement and color sensations as they reveal themselves. Alternatively, I construct allegorical reliquaries using bricolage; rearranging and juxtaposing previously unconnected signifying objects to produce new meanings in fresh contexts. My art making seeks to illuminate the ineffable; those significant emotions impossible to be described with language.
I participate lovingly in the three tasks of the earliest shaman/artists: to create, to teach and to heal.
Reception: Sunday, March 22nd (1-3pm)
Exhibiting: March 3rd - 28th
